Hubungan antara Indonesia dan Australia memang sering mengalami 'cobaan' dan pasang surut. Namun hal tersebut bukanlah karena faktor eksternal, melainkan akibat perilaku buruk Australia yang seringkali tak 'menghargai' kedaulatan Indonesia sehingga memantik perselisihan.
Kita tentunya masih ingat dengan perilaku buruk Australia yang tertangkap basah memberikan dukungan persenjataan dan amunisi kepada Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) pada tahun 1984 silam. Pada saat itu, agen pemerintah Australia berhasil disergap Kopassus jauh di pedalaman hutan Papua New Guinea (PNG) ketika mengangkut persenjataan untuk OPM.
Selain itu, Australia juga dengan lantang mendukung Timor-Timur agar melaksanakan referendum untuk menentukan nasib sendiri. Australia kala itu merupakan negara yang mengirim pasukan dengan jumlah terbesar di bawah naungan PBB. Akibat referendum yang didukung Australia ini, Timor-Timur akhirnya memilih berpisah dari pangkuan Ibu Pertiwi.

Pada era kepemimpinan Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Australia kembali berulah dan membuat marah seisi Indonesia. Bagaimana tidak, pada saat itu Australia nekat menyadap SBY beserta istrinya Ani Yudhoyono. Akibat peristiwa ini, SBY kemudian memutuskan kerjasama militer dengan Australia.
Yang terbaru adalah sikap Perdana Menteri Australia Scott Morrison yang berencana memindahkan Kedutaan Besar Australia untuk Israel dari Tel Aviv ke Yerusalem. Hal tersebut sangat bertentangan dengan perjuangan bangsa Indonesia selama ini untuk rakyat Palestina. Indonesia menganggap sikap Australia ini hanya memperkeruh masalah dan tak mendukung solusi antar kedua negara.
Meskipun sering 'menginjak' kedaulatan NKRI, hal tersebut ternyata tak menghalangi niat Australia untuk terus memperkuat kerjasamanya dengan TNI. Kepala staf Angkatan Darat Australia Letnan Jenderal Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO dikabarkan telah mengunjungi Makopassus di Cijantung, Jakarta Timur pada Selasa (30/10/18).
Dalam kunjungan tersebut Perwakilan militer Australia dan Kopassus membahas kerjasama militer yang sudah terjalin cukup lama. Kunjungan Australia merupakan upaya untuk memelihara dan meningkatkan kerja sama militernya dengan Indonesia serta meningkatkan hubungan bilateral antara kedua negara. Bukannya marah, Danjen Kopassus Mayjen TNI Eko Margiyono nampaknya ingin memelihara hubungan baik dengan siapapun, termasuk dengan Australia yang notabene sering berbuat 'onar' kepada Indonesia. Danjen Kopassus bahkan berencana akan mengunjungi Australia dalam waktu dekat untuk menghadiri perayaan dan peringatan 25 tahun kerja sama militer Indonesia dan Australia.
Beginilah sikap 'legowo' Indonesia yang bertambah dewasa dalam hubungan internasional. Meskipun begitu, tak ada salahnya jika kita terus waspada dalam menjalankan hubungan kerja sama dengan Australia. Indonesia harus mempelajari cara berpikir dan titik lemah Australia selama kerjasama ini, sehingga jika mereka nantinya kembali macam-macam, Indonesia sudah mengetahui cara 'menyikat' Australia! kamu setuju?
